    Howdy! I’m Anna Kiss Mauser-Martinez, the new Interim Executive Director of the New Agrarian Center, home of City Fresh. You may know me from all those reminder emails or from your neighborhood fresh stop. I joined City Fresh as a shareholder in 2007. I was excited to find a CSA that was both weekly and accepted my food stamps. I was poor, but I wanted to create change and fight climate crisis. I wanted good food to feed my young children. I wanted to be part of local solutions to global problems. City Fresh let me do all of that. I started volunteering in 2008 and joined as program director in 2014. I once joked that I was the worst shareholder because of how many kohlrabi shriveled in my crisper, but these days I’m so deep into the vegetable life that sometimes I dress up as kale. I’m really excited to take on this new role at the NAC. We’re working hard to roll out this new season and we’re so excited for you all to join us in another year of vegetable adventures. Let’s keep changing the world, one veggie at a time!

    Happy Holiday Shares! This holiday season presents us all with unique challenges and rather extraordinary circumstances. We are all trying to cope with a wholly changed world from holidays past. Good food can provide the comfort we need to make the best of things. Family recipes can connect us to our traditions when our normal customs are interrupted. Hearty soups and richly roasted root vegetables express the care we need, for ourselves and our families. What will you be making in the coming days? What speaks to you of feeling nurtured and nourished? We hope you'll find recipes that keep you warm and safe, that help carry you through to the other side of this long dark winter. Turn up the oven, strike up the soup pot! Find whatever joy you can in the little things to foster good health and good spirit, and be sure to include a little love in every dish.

    Because of you, we've had our best year ever at City Fresh. It's been a difficult time in our region and our world. We have had intense stressors on our most basic needs, including our health and our food. The pandemic and climate change have coincided to put everyone at risk, especially the most vulnerable among us. Here at City Fresh, these crises underscore our core functions: supporting local farms, supplying healthy food to all people, and insisting that our practices be accessible and equitable. And our response? In 2020, we have supplied more food to more people than ever before proving that our model of building a more resilient food system in our region can be relied on. We don't expect all of these stressors to subside. The way we live is changing, and it must. And that change can be beautiful, rewarding, uplifting, and authentic. We are evolving the ways we support one another, grow our food and fiber, and eat and we invite you to evolve with us. In the coming years it is our central goal to grow the City Fresh program to a place where we can supply affordable harvests from Northeast Ohio farmers to every neighborhood in Cleveland, Lorain, and beyond. We're asking for your continued support. Spread the word about what we do together. Keep coming back as our customers, farmers, volunteers, and beloved friends.
