New Agrarian Center Workshops

Our workshops provide practical knowledge in a garden setting and hands-on opportunities to apply that knowledge. Workshops are currently offered by both the George Jones Farm of Oberlin and City Fresh of Cleveland. Stay tuned for new updates or subscribe to our newsletters to stay updated!

George Jones Farm Workshops:

Our Staff:

Evelyn Bryant, our Education Coordinator is a certified Horticulturist, licensed teacher, certified permaculture designer, and has been an organic gardener for 20 years.

Aaron Englander is a graduate of Oberlin College with a degree in botany. He is the head grower and farm manager at the George Jones Farm.

Brad Masi, Executive Director of the New Agrarian Center is a certified permaculture designer and graduate of Oberlin College with a degree in Environmental Studies. He currently is an adjunct professor of Environmental Studies at Oberlin.

Judy Laushman is a horticulturist and is on the board of the New Agrarian Center. She the founding director of the Association of Specialty Cut Flower Growers in Oberlin..

Maurice Small is an urban gardener, City Fresh Coordinator and a certified permaculture designer.

Tom Shurr is a local artisan and experienced designer of ornamental ponds.

Pond Construction

In this hands-on workshop, participants will learn the basics of pond construction and maintenance by helping to construct a small ornamental pond at the Jones Farm.

Composting/Vermi-composting

Sunday June 22 1:00 - 3:00

This workshop covers the basics of composting, including vemi-composting. You will learn how to build a free compost bin, a cement block raised bed that can even be built on pavement, and how to build a worm bin to take home for kitchen composting.
